Topic: my two cents
One would like to believe from the title of this entry, that I have no words to describe last night, when in fact I possible could be just the opposite as 'speechless.' Yesterday morning, my friend (and temporary roommate, for those paying attention) Lauren, stood on line in line for Shakespeare in the Park tickets to that evening's performance of Hair. Being a wannabe actor, I feel like I have seen a good number of shows both musicals and straight plays and now even a few operas... well, last night in the park, I am very certain I had a spiritual experience while watching Hair. I can not say enough amazing things about this performance, I simply can't... which is why I'm so speechless when it comes to the review because I'm not sure which amazing compliment to give everyone involved! I may have been the only person who had no idea there would be nudity and I may be one of the few who had no idea what the show was evening about, which I think helped to increase my level of enjoyment. It was as if I was watching art come to life! At one point I got a little choked up when I realized that the issues in 1968 were very similar to the issues we're going through today and it makes me wonder, since these were our parents, when did they lose their ability to be accepting of everyone? When did they lose their tolerance for those different than themselves? At what point did they lose their 'LOVE'ing ways and turn back into their parents? I can not say enough amazing things about this show, so if you are in the city this summer, I suggest going and experiencing a piece of theater like you've never experienced before!
